Community Heroes: Shincheonji Volunteers Bring Safety and Warmth to Traditional Market

When winter arrives, traditional markets face unique challenges—aging electrical systems, worn facilities, and safety concerns. But in Masan, South Korea, a dedicated group of volunteers is making a real difference.

On January 23, around 100 volunteers from the Shincheonji Volunteer Group's Masan branch gathered at Dongmasan Market for their "Warmth Sharing" service initiative. This wasn't their first visit—the volunteer group has built a strong reputation through consistent service to the local community.

The volunteers rolled up their sleeves for hands-on work that directly improved market safety. They replaced old, potentially hazardous electrical wiring throughout the market, repaired aging facilities in the merchant association office, and conducted thorough pre-inspection surveys to identify critical needs. From early morning to evening, the team worked diligently to ensure merchants and visitors could enjoy a safer environment.

What made this initiative special was the collaborative spirit. The Dongmasan Market Merchant Association provided materials and meals for the volunteers, transforming the event into a true partnership. Chairman Yoon Sang-soo noted that the Masan branch has been consistently volunteering for the market, building great trust among the merchants. He added that since they've received so much help, the merchant association wanted to contribute and support the volunteers this time.

The Masan branch's commitment extends far beyond single projects. They regularly engage in environmental cleanup, traffic safety programs, and various community support activities—demonstrating that meaningful change comes from sustained effort. As one local resident noted, seeing volunteers address real safety concerns during winter brought peace of mind to both merchants and customers alike.

The Shincheonji Volunteer Group continues to prove that thoughtful, practical service strengthens communities from the ground up.
