Shincheonji Volunteer Group Marks 40 Years of Community Service, Surpassing 1.11 Million Volunteer Participations

Four Decades of Serving Communities with Compassion

Community service is one of the most meaningful ways to create positive change. For the past 40 years, the Shincheonji Volunteer Group has carried out various volunteer activities to support local communities, respond to emergencies, and promote a culture of sharing.

Since its beginning in 1986, the Shincheonji Volunteer Group has expanded its efforts from helping neighbors in need to carrying out various social contribution projects throughout South Korea and extending its efforts to communities overseas.

Today, the organization continues volunteer activities across 14 areas of service, including disaster recovery, blood donation campaigns, environmental protection, elderly care, support for vulnerable groups, multicultural family assistance, welfare programs for people with disabilities, veterans support, and rural community assistance.

More Than 1.11 Million Volunteer Participations

The Shincheonji Volunteer Group has continued its commitment to serving communities through consistent and meaningful volunteer work.

From 2008 to July 21, 2026, the organization recorded a cumulative total of 1,119,925 volunteer participations. This achievement reflects the dedication of volunteers who have continuously contributed their time and efforts to helping others.

These ongoing social contribution activities have been recognized by government agencies, local governments, and public institutions. From 2013 to 2026, the organization received a total of 655 commendations and certificates of appreciation, including recognition such as the Presidential Commendation and awards from the Korean Red Cross.

Supporting Communities During Times of Disaster

One of the Shincheonji Volunteer Group’s important roles has been providing support during national and local disasters.

In July 2026, volunteers participated in recovery efforts after flooding caused by the overflow of Gokgyocheon Stream in Asan, Chungcheongnam-do, damaged farmland and local agricultural facilities. Despite extreme summer heat reaching 37°C, volunteers worked to clean mud-covered belongings, restore greenhouses, and help residents recover from the damage.

The organization has also participated in major disaster recovery efforts in the past.

Following the 2007 Taean oil spill disaster, volunteers traveled to Taean, South Korea, to help restore the damaged coastline. Approximately 30,000 volunteers participated in cleanup efforts, removing oil from beaches and rocks even during the cold winter season and contributing to the recovery of the western coastal ecosystem.

These efforts demonstrate the importance of community cooperation and volunteer participation when facing unexpected challenges.

Saving Lives Through Blood Donation Campaigns

The Shincheonji Volunteer Group has also actively participated in blood donation campaigns as part of its commitment to saving lives.

Since 2008, thousands of volunteers have joined blood donation activities to help address blood shortages and support patients in need.

In 2022, the organization achieved records certified by the Korea Record Institute for the largest number of blood donation participants and the highest number of donated blood donation certificates within the shortest period by a single organization.

During a 17-day campaign:

• 18,819 people participated in blood donation.
• 32,324 blood donation certificates were donated.

These contributions helped support a stable blood supply, and the efforts were recognized by the Korean Red Cross.

Over the past 18 years, the organization has conducted 260 blood donation campaigns, with a cumulative participation of 43,841 people, continuing its efforts to promote life-sharing through volunteerism.

Creating a Better Community Through Continuous Service

Beyond emergency response, the Shincheonji Volunteer Group continues various community-based volunteer programs throughout the year.

Its activities include:
